Musical Director: Charlie Rhodes 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Charlie is a Calderdale based Singing Teacher, Choir Leader and Musical Director.


In addition to his work at Halifax Young Singers, Charlie teaches singing and directs the choirs at Rastrick High School, as well as being a successful theatre MD, who’s recent credits include We Will
Rock You, Legally Blonde, Elf the Musical and Wasteland.

 

Charlie is currently working as MD and vocal
arranger on new musical Can’t Go Back, and is in high demand as a singing teacher and choral leader.


Charlie was born in York and educated at Pocklington School. Always a passionate singer, Charlie has been singing in choirs since he was 5. Whilst at school in Pocklington, he first experienced leading
small choral groups. This passion continued whilst studying Music at the University of Manchester, and it was during this time that he set up his first choir, Leeds Vocal Movement, which he ran from
2011-2017.

 

Since leaving University, Charlie, has worked as a choral conductor and vocal coach throughout the North of England. Amongst others he has directed Huddersfield Voices, Halcyon Youth Choir, Scunthorpe Cooperative Junior Choir and Aire Valley Singers.

 

Charlie has also worked for
Diocese of Leeds Music Department and was previously Co-Director

I have been a member of the HYS board for 7 years. I have 2 children in the choir and they really love it. I love singing and working behind the scenes in this vibrant youth choir. I am also a first aider for the choir.

Company Secretary: Catriona Chadderton 

I was a member of the choir for 3 years and have been a member of the board for 5. I enjoy using my musical knowledge and education to help with the choir's communication.

Board Member: Michael Cockerill 

Having served on the board for a number of years, my son Craig the choirs accompanist decided after 20 years to retire. I thought these youngsters are so worth supporting I decided to stay on and do what I can for these amazing Young Singers. 

Board Member: Catherine Kirk 

Catherine volunteered to support Halifax Young Singers following her daughter's positive experience with the choir, including award-winning performances at the Mrs Sunderland Festival. She provides fundraising and organisational skills to help the choir continue to inspire and build the confidence of young people through the discipline of choral singing. Catherine is also a Trustee of Calderdale charity Together for Looked-after Children. During 2016-17 she was Mayoress of Calderdale and is keen to promote the benefits for all found in music, art and culture.

My daughter has been singing in the choir for 6 years and I joined the Board last year.   I live in Todmorden with a dog, 2 cats, 12 chickens and 24 sheep.
